MATCH REPORTS

Bredagh V Kilcleif 07.07.16

Bredagh U14 Camogs progress to Championship Shield Semi-Final

Bredagh U14 Camogs travelled to Kilclief on Thursday night for a Championship Shield quarter-final match.  With a number of regular team members absent due to holidays/Gaelteacht etc, a number of U12 girls stepped in to help secure an impressive win and take the girls through to the shield semi-final.

Lily McKee got the girls off to a good start with a goal scored from a free.  Aoife Doyle and Nina Carnie both added 1-1 before the whistle blew for half-time.

Although the Bredagh defence was not under great pressure Aimee McCrudden  was a reliable presence in goals.

In the second half, Kilclief, with the wind behind them,  stepped up their game but the Bredagh defence of Poppy McCamphill, Caitlin Cunningham and Cara Collins cleared every Kilclief attack comprehensively.

Anna O Keefe  and Orla McCarville were outstanding in mid-field as was Lisa Carlin at half-back.

In the second half, Bredagh added a futher two goals and one point to their tally  with Kilclief scoring just one point.

Special praise to Laura O Keefe and Lauren McCartney who gave a fine performance on their first outing for Bredagh U14 Camogs and we will hopefully see more of them in future.

Liatroim v Bredagh 26.05.15

Bredagh U14 Camogs played Liatroim in the U14 Down League match on Tuesday 26th May 2015. In total 17 girls made the trip and played out a great game of camogie in tight conditions.

Liatroim started the game strongest and raced into a 2-01 to 0-01 lead after 10 minutes. Bredagh then started to take control of the game and some great defence from Mia Carnie, Tara Churchman, Aoibhinn Brentnall, Niamh Wilson and Maeve Donaldson ensured that Liatroim wouldn’t score again for the remainder of the first half.

Orna Kelly and Eve Elliott applied relentless pressure in the middle of the park for the last quarter of the first half and this proved to be the turning point as Bredagh raced into a 2-04 to 2-01 lead at half time aided by some great scores from Cate Blayney and Aoife McCann.

Liatroim came out fired up at the start of the second half and a great save from Lara McStay maintained Bredagh’s lead. Bredagh’s forwards were getting more involved, with some great movement on and off the ball, and it wasn’t long before Bredagh’s lead increased when Anna McKee and Aine Devlin found the back of the Liatroim net.

Aoife McCamphill and Maeve O’Keefe in the half-forward line were starting to stamp their authority on the game and up front Anna O’Keefe and Bronagh Donaghy looked threatening every time they got the ball. Orlagh Blaney, returning from injury, came on for the last ten minutes and it was like she was never away.

In the end Bredagh were too strong and ended up winning 5-08 to 3-02. It was a great competitive game and will hold the girls in good stead in their preparations for the All-Ireland Féile.

Team: Lara McStay, Mia Carnie, Tara Churchman, Niamh Wilson, Maeve Donaldson, Cate Blayney (1-03), Orna Kelly, Aoife McCann (1-01), Eve Elliott, Anna McKee (2-03), Aoife McCamphill, Maeve O’Keefe, Anna O’Keefe, Aoibhinn Brentnall, Bronagh Donaghy (0-01), Aine Devlin (1-00), Orlagh Blaney.

Bredagh U14 Camogs progress to Championship Semi-Final

On Saturday 8th August, Bredagh U14 Camogs booked a place in this year's Championship Semi-Finals with an impressive victory over the host team Ballyholland. Played in blustery conditions, Bredagh lost the toss and played into a stiff breeze in the first half. The back line of Rachel McCormack, Kitty Rogers and Tara Churchman, with Megan Rea giving orders from between the posts, pushed back the initial attacks from a spirited Ballyholland Team and it was long after that Bredagh started to gain the upper hand.

As the half progressed, sustained pressure from the midfield pairing of Sara Hand and Aoife McCamphill, coupled with the high work rate from Orla McCarville, Anna McKee and Sian Curran, was beginning to reap rewards. Eva McStay and Mia Carney chased every ball in the full forward line and ensured that every clearance made by Ballyholland was hard earned. Aoibhinn Brentnall was proving to be unmarkable up front, scoring 4-01 from play in the first half. When the half time whistle went ,Bredagh lead 5-01 to 0-01.

With the wind in their backs in the second half, Bredagh started strongly with Cate Blayney playing a masterly role in centre half back, ably supported on each side by Lara McStay and Aine McCreanor. Such was the determination of the girls to win the game that in one Ballyholland attack, a brave Lara McStay stepped in to to make a tackle, which briefly left her airborne. The referee had no option but to award the free, and Bredagh were on the attack again. Bredagh introduced Poppy McCamphill, Aoife Doyle and Nina Carnie in the last quarter as the Ballyholland attack started to fade. Bredagh finished the game strongly and when the final whistle blew they were worthy winners.
Final Score: Ballyholland 0-01 v Bredagh 9-03.

Bredagh now face Ballycran on Saturday 15th August at 12:00hrs in Ballycran and all support is welcome.
Scorers: A Brentnall (7-01), A McKee (1-01), S Curran (1-00), C Blayney (0-01)
